5 out of 5 stars the best bread maker I've ever had   November 17, 2008

In the past twelve years I've managed a grand total of three weeks without a working bread maker (when making olive bread, be sure that the olives you are using are pitted!). This machine recently replaced a Russell Hobbs model that was getting a little squeaky in use. I've by no means explored all its possibilities, but I have never had a bread machine as good as this before.

I generally prefer to use the dough setting, as I prefer to shape the loaf myself, but I have tried "going all the way" with this machine and apart from the hole in the base where the paddle was, the results are barely distinguishable from a conventional oven baked loaf.

Even on the dough setting it takes longer than my last bread maker, but the extra time makes for a much better loaf. I was used to my standard granary loaf being a bit of a house brick, but it's now turning out with a much lighter texture without a change of recipe. I use Bacheldre's malted wholemeal flour and add about 50 grams of oats, and it turns out only slightly denser than a white loaf.

I am seriously impressed with this machine: buy with confidence!

5 out of 5 stars I'm in love...   November 16, 2008

I had not used a breadmaker until I bought the panasonic SD255 about 4 weeks ago - I haven't gone a day without using it. Every evening I set it to make a loaf that I can take out of the machine just before I go to bed - next morning I have a delicious fresh loaf that is easy to slice for my families' packed lunches.
I have used it to make white bread and pizza dough so far - it has saved me quite a few pounds already. I have not bought bread since I bought the breadmaker and have no desire to. I did use a couple of packet mixes at first with no problems however now buy strong white flour from ASDA at 48p a bag - this makes almost 4 loaves - it's costing me approximately 15p a loaf for the ingredients.
It was only after I had ordered the breadmaker that I thought about the cleaning involved in it's use - I hate cleaning. Very happy to find that there is very little cleaning involved - not much more than a wipe over with a damp cloth.
I would highly recommend the Panasonic SD255 breadmaker.

5 out of 5 stars The best ever breadmaker!   November 11, 2008

I've owned this breadmaker for over a year now, and my whole family just LOVES the bread that it makes! There are loads of different options, and one of our favourite ones is the rye bread with seeds. Then there are pizzas and wholemeal bread and many many other things and all are so delicious! I would recommend this breadmaker to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Bread   November 11, 2008

After 2 months of use I have moved on from being a Grade 1 skeptic to now fully converted to homemade bread - no more supermarket pap for me. Easy to use and perfect fresh bread every time when you need it. The first crust is to die for!!!! OK so you do need a louder buzzer when finished so just set the cooker alarm. Really worth trying Wessex Cobber Bread Flour.
